Teaching Strategy

Unlike classroom programs, where “one size fits all,” our A+Study courseware incorporates both a standards-based approach and a self-paced approach to effective learning. First, students are given assessment tests, to determine the most appropriate lesson plan for their individual needs. Then the software is delivered in a consistent computer format, so that students need learn and use only one, user-friendly interface. Also, at any time, they can view their own progress.

A+Study uses the proven-successful four-step approach:
- Study Guide
- Practice Test
- Mastery Test
- Essay
First, the concept of the subject is introduced and fully explained, using examples to reinforce understanding.
Next, an un-graded practice test is taken, followed by a graded mastery text.
Finally, students write an essay that shows how well they now understand the subject matter. The curriculum is assessable at any time of the day. |

Technology

For individual use in their homes during the program’s duration, Ivy League Tutor provides eligible students with a FREE, user-friendly laptop computer, pre-loaded with proprietary software pertaining to the subject matter, along with limited Internet access, which is also free. Your home needs to have digital (push-button) telephone service, not rotary dial, and a quiet area where the laptop can be set up.
Your child will have 24/7 access to our proprietary A+Study software, however, when your child logs on to our website at the specified time, he or she will be connected electronically to one of our tutors, an experienced educator and an expert in the subject matter. The tutor’s computer and the student’s will each have a built-in microphone and speaker, to allow instantaneous voice communication, along with e-mails, downloads and uploads.

No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 is a federal Act designed to bring all students up to the proficient level on state tests by the 2013-14 school year (or earlier, if possible), and to hold states and schools more accountable for this proficiency. NCLB requires states to measure “Adequate Yearly Progress” (AYP) for schools receiving Title 1 funds (e.g., for school lunch programs). If the AYP is deemed to be unsatisfactory after a specified number of years, these schools must offer free tutoring services as an option to eligible students.
